Sony Europe today announced the release of a trio of High-Def home cinema receivers. Leading the charge is the flagship STR-DG820. This particular model was released in May in the US with an approximate price tag of $400 making it a very competitive offering, particularly given it’s feature-rich spec. It has now made it to European shores, together with its two younger siblings – also released are the mid-range STR-DG720 and the entry-level STR-DG520. (although we have yet to see a confirmed release date for the top of the range STR-DG920).
Key features of the DG820 include:
- Full HD audio capability: Dolby True HD and dts-HD Master Audio decoding, plus eight-channel Linear PCM
- Four HDMI v1.3 inputs and one output, with 1080/24P pass-through and Deep Colour/x.v.Colour compatibility
- One-button operation of a complete system with BRAVIA Sync
- Fast, accurate set-up with Digital Cinema Auto Calibration
- Digital Media Port for connection of iPod, WALKMAN®, wi-fi and Bluetooth® audio devices
- More immersive cinema experience with Cinema Studio EX and Neural-THX Surround processing
- 7x100W output
The DG820 comes with a microphone used to auto calibrate the digital cinema settings – checking the distance and size of your surrounding speakers and optimizing the output to suit your own specific environment.
Official prices for all units are TBC, but they should be arriving in stores and at SonyStyle in the next few days.
