Sony is Stepping Up on its Advertising Muscle

Today in its press release Sony announced that it will make a huge impact and promote its HD centered VAIOs with a key message that the Sony VAIO is “Born out of Sony HD technology” to highlight the new computer’s capability. Starting July 15th, a number of TV networks and late night shows will be running commercials, if you live in major metropolitan cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Richmond, San Diego, San Francisco and Washington D.C. – those residents will see their cities covered in campaign creative on billboards, walls, bus shelters, airport terminals and subway stations starting in August.

Another interesting piece for VAIO owners: “As the campaign kicks off, Sony will be conducting a national search for VAIO PC owners who can show they have enough HDNA qualities to be dubbed Techsperts” by creating online video essays integrating Sony HD technology. Authentic evangelists of the brand who personify VAIO style – superior Sony HD technology + multimedia experience – are encouraged to step up and show their HDNA. Consumers can enter via a dedicated site for the contest that will go live August.”

It’s high time for some well-done promotion of Sony in the US. I believe it is one area of Sony that has been pretty weak, so let’s see how well it goes!
