Sony must be pleased to have yet another high grossing film to add to its arsenal. Will Smith continues to be the unmatched king of USA’s July 4th Holiday period with the release of “Hancock” already grossing $24.1million USD in its opening day. A comprable success to Transformers, which made $27.8 million in its first full day of release, and $155.4 million for the long holiday. “Hancock” grossed $17.3 million from 3,965 runs on Wednesday, its first full day in release – the other 6 million was from Tuesday night previews. Most still expect the film to make near a $100 million over the extended July 4th holiday stretch, but Wednesday’s gross means film will have to perform strongly from here on out.
Some of the reviews I’ve seen so far make the film seem a little jarring in the sense that it is good but then has a “drop off” point, but I expect it should be a fun one for the 4th. Will Smith has such a good track record its hard to think otherwise..or is it finally time?
