cNet.co.uk’s Crave technology blog has rated the Sony product placement in Casino Royale as one of the worst amongst all recently released movies. It isn’t really surprising that Sony was all over the movie, as they own a significant chunk of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the movie studio behind the James Bond films. It’s also no secret that Casino Royale, while being very good indeed, did play out as a Sony advert, with placements for Vaio laptops, Sony Ericsson phones, and Blu-ray players (including a ridiculous blu-based security system). I remember watching Casino Royale for the first time with my friend David Scherer on his big ol’ TV, and the product placement was so obvious that we turned it into a drinking game (every time you see a Sony product you drink) – lets just say about 3/4th’s into the movie we were plastered.
