As usual, I was browsing the slickdeals.net “Hot Deals” forum and came across a topic regarding Sony’s NSC-GC1 net sharing camera. The NSC-GC1 is a 640×480 30fps MPEG memory stick/duo camcorder, and is great for quick videos as evidenced by the numerous owners on Youtube. Apparently Sears are selling them in their stores “for $107.97 or less… No shipping option available so, it has to picked up from the store. You can get it fo less also… My nearest store (I live in NJ central) has the item for $86.xx i.e. final price would be $86.xx – 10% clearence discount = $78.xx + tax.” (quote from aforementioned slickdeals site) That’s a pretty good deal, but the real story is the product itself. Released in late 2007, the NSC-GC1 is at the end of its product lifecycle.
Sonystyle notes on their site that “This product is no longer available for purchase.”, which is indicative that we may be seeing a refresh soon. I think Sony has potential here to have success with these type of camcorders, but hopefully they will inject a little more features while retaining the attractive pricepoint. The camera has a decent 5 megapixel censor but lacks an optical zoom, which many critics were surprised at.
