Sony Reaches out to Make Right of What Went Wrong in the Chinese Earthquake

The Bayi Chunlei Earthquake School, funded by Sony China, has opened for the new semester. Sony China has invested about CNY800,000 ($116k USD) through the China Children and Teenagers’ Fund for the construction to help students return to their school after it was annihilated in the recent earthquake. The secretary of Sony’s global corporate social responsibility department came from Tokyo for the school’s opening. He also brought some 150 paintings by the children of Sony’s Tokyo employees (some pictured below):

The CNY530,000 for the construction comes from donations made by Sony’s employees in China, according to Zhan Bin, the vice president of Sony China. In addition, the company has invested CNY250,000 to buy necessary school supplies such as the blackboard and desks. Another permanent school with an investment of CNY3 million ($437k USD) from Sony and built in cooperation with the Red Cross Society of China is reported to be in preparation now.
