Future XPERIA Phones May Not Have Windows Mobile

Posted on

It looks like that future phones in the XPERIA line may or may not use Windows Mobile. While there isn’t any clear indication of what Sony Ericsson’s strategy is, perhaps they will release some phones with Windows Mobile and some without. Honestly, Sony Insider believes that the best option would be to find a way to partner with Apple and have their OS on Sony hardware. As an extensive user of the iPhone and a previously long-time owner of a HTC smartphone that had Windows Mobile 6, there is simply no comparison – the iPhone is simply superior. How great would it be if Sony devices had Apple software? Sony’s revenues would go through the roof and they would have a whole new image. Magnus Andersson, product manager for the X1, said, “The brand is not tied into any specific technical platform,” but did not expand on what other mobile operating systems the company may consider.

CNet reports, “Also, according to a company spokeswoman, there will be announcement on November 3 for the North American market, so mark your calendars. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Sweden will be able to get the smartphone on September 30th, while it should roll out to the rest of Europe, Asia, and Latin America in Q4.”
