Sony/Legacy To Release Some Vinyl Classics
Vinyl continues to rule the world for audiophiles and headbangers and everyone in between. Megabytes, gigabytes, terabytes, .wav files. .mp3’s, iPods, and flash drives may rule the digital cosmos –but nothing compares to the warm ambience of listening to a 12-inch vinyl 33 1/3 rpm platter spinning on a smooth turntable, with diamond stylus, ceramic cartridge, and lightweight tone-arm doing their thing. And according to the RIAA, as reported by the Associated Press in June, “manufacturers’ shipments of LPs jumped more than 36 percent from 2006 to 2007, to more than 1.3 million.”
According to Punknews.org, Boston and Blue Öyster Cult are among the classic bands whose albums will be reissued on vinyl via Sony/Legacy this month. Other LPs that were originally released through Columbia, Epic, and RCA that are part of the reissue campaign include recordings by Jefferson Starship and Cheap Trick, Lou Reed’s classic “Berlin” and Social Distortion’s 1990 self-titled album.
