Since January 2008 (CES), Sony has been showing off a 10mm thick 27-inch OLED display at most trade shows yet offering no word about release date. CEATEC is no different and once again the 27-inch OLED is on display. With a contrast ratio of greater than 1,000,000:1 to go with its 1080p resolution, and >100% NTSC color reproduction, the world is ready for low-cost OLED’s. OLED also has a proven track record for lower power consumption making this product greener in comparison to its LED counterpart.
Will 2009 be the year of the 27-inch OLED? One can hope, but then again, we can all assume the price of the display would be astronomical as the 11-inch model XEL-1 commands a $2,000+ price tag.
