The holidays have past and that means it’s a great time for blockbuster movies. Sony is releasing a couple but the pricing schemes and availability are confusing to me. From this point forward we will start writing about what quality the movies come in along with the pricing. Hopefully Sony will adopt this stance as well because I think that it is potentially frustrating for consumers to go to the store, wanting to buy the movie in HD and its not available while other new releases are. All new movies should be released in SD/HD rent, and SD/HD full purchase in my opinion.
Regardless, I seriously have to commend Sony for their Store and Video Store interface. It is probably the best UI I’ve ever used to purchase and browse movies. The PlayStation Video store should be available on ALL networked Sony devices immediately that have available storage – it blows my mind that it isn’t. Wouldn’t it make sense for your Walkman, Vaio, Home Server, etc to have direct access to the same interface? This needs to be called the Sony Video Store. Give it a brand name, not a sub-brand name. This interface is ready for prime time ASAP.
Sony also needs to make sure all movies have a preview though to encourage spontaneous purchases.
Anyway, now available on PlayStation Network are the following:
Hancock ($14.99, full/no rent, SD only)
Fred Claus ($14.99 SD full, $5.99 HD rent, $3.99 SD rent)
Meet Dave ($14.99, full, SD only)
Space Chimps ($14.99, full, SD only)
24: Redemption ($19.99 HD/$14.99 SD, no rent)
Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($3.99 rent SD,
