Three Operating Systems A Charm – Sony Ericsson And Android
Sony Ericsson is poised to release a mobile phone with Google’s Android operating system according to recent media reports. This will be yet another risk for Sony Ericsson after they tried out a Windows Mobile phone last year with the XPERIA X1, which had lukewarm reception and no carrier support in the USA. It also means that Sony Ericsson will have three separate operating systems available on various handsets – Symbian, Windows Mobile, and now Android. Sony Ericsson is seriously overextending themselves by embracing yet another operating system, which is not a wise move considering that they are having massive problems financially and sales are dropping like flies. However, we applaud the choice of Android, which I’ve spent some time with before and its great. Apparently the v1.5 update is coming out to the public and it has alot of cool features, such as stereo bluetooth, widgets for your home screen, and more.
However, Sony Ericsson will not release a new phone with Android until the software is at version 2.0, according to Peter Ang, vice president of marketing, Asia Pacific at Sony Ericsson. He stated that “The Android 2.0 will have more multimedia support that the previous Android OS.” I’m not sure how much more it can already support, as the T-Mobile G1 supports MP3, AAC, AAC +, WMA, WAV, MIDI, REAL AUDIO, OGG, and video: H.264, 3GPP, MPEG4, and 3GP. What else do you need? Jesus. SE, release a phone soon with Android firmware 1.5 and stop waiting.
