At the 2009 JavaOne Conference in San Francisco, USA, Sony Ericsson announced the imminent addition of applications to the PlayNow arena online content store, offering Sony Ericsson end-users a fully integrated mobile content marketplace, and developers will be able to submit high-quality Java ME and Symbian OS applications to this established market channel starting July 1, 2009. Sony is tapping GetJar‘s library of over 47,000+ free applications that will soon be linked directly through Sony Ericsson’s PlayNow arena, its app store. GetJar’s proven upload infrastructure will be used by Sony Ericsson to make the submission process for new applications easy for developers. It is also the world’s largest independent app store, has been providing mobile applications to consumers since 2005 and now receives over 1 million downloads a day across more than 200 countries. The company boasts over 200,000 developer accounts and has been delivering millions of downloads for leading applications developers and content owners such as Google, Facebook, YouTube, Nimbuzz, and eBuddy among others. If you go to GetJar’s website you can see that the downloads aren’t too shabby.

Applications will be offered in the 13 countries that currently support PlayNow arena www.playnow-arena.com. The service platform, which is compatible with 38 Sony Ericsson phone models, will roll out to further markets and models during 2009. Does this mean the United States? BRIC markets? Don’t be so vague Sony Ericsson!
