News and reviews continue to surface on the PS3 Slim and it keeps getting better. In a translated article from AV Watch courtesy of Engadget HD, it appears the PS3 Slim has been given an HDMI chipset upgrade.
One of the complaints against the PS3 initially was that it was not capable of bit streaming Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. According to that new unearthed feature matrix it can now do so. This inclusion in the feature set is important because a variety of receivers will not perform post processing on a standard LPCM signal received externally. Crave put this to the test recently, and without surprise, bit streaming without issue.
For someone like myself who has an STR-DA5200ES, I rely on the internal decoding of the PS3. At some point however I will upgrade my receiver and it’s nice to see Sony listening to feedback making changes.
CNET has posted some screenshots of the PS3 Slim unboxing as well as nice video review of the PS3 that’s worth a view. CNET PS3 Review What’s noteworthy is that they give it an excellent rating of 4 out of 5 stars, and speak quite highly of it in the review.
Lastly, if you’re a visual person like myself, head on over to Destructoid. Of all the hands on and boxing screenshots I have seen on the web, they have covered the unit from almost every single angle. I think some of the fears people have about the finish on the console can be alleviated from their screenshots.
It’s nice to see so much positive buzz being generated for Sony. In the words of Johnny Storm: Flame on!
