SOE’s DC Universe Online – Updates

Posted on

Being the resident comic geek here, I have always been a big Jim Lee fan. My first exposure to his art style goes back to 1991 when I picked up a copy of a new spin-off series of Uncanny X-MEN just called X-MEN. I was hooked, and collected every issue (which I still own) re-reading them countless times. I followed his work through WildC.A.T.s, Iron Man, Fantastic Four and Batman:  Hush. Knowing he was going to be the Executive Creative Director on this project took my attention from day one. But I digress…

More news is trickling out on the first project out of Sony Online’s Austin studio: DC Universe Online. Some news has been missed, so I will hit the highlights and direct you to the latest news and interviews.

To start with, if you haven’t seen the character models and concept art created by Jim head over to IGN and view the DC Universe Online Gallery. This will give you a good opportunity to get familiar with the immense scope the game is going for in trying to represent the DC Universe.

IGN posted two interviews done during SDCC ’09. The first is with the legendary Jim Lee. He offers some great details and even spoiler that wasn’t mentioned anywhere thus far about a specific character model.

The second is a good interview from SDCC ’09 with another comic icon Marv Wolfman. Instrumental in creating Cyborg, Blade, Black Cat, and doing amazing work on the Crisis on Infinite Earth’s series in the 80’s.

The Official Playstation Blog posted this excellent walkthrough with Senior Producer Wes Yanagi which really takes you into the game to see how things are progressing.

With Gamescom 2009 over, Gamespot has posted a few new images from the event. Some of the character models are extremely impressive and a few appear to be user creations.

Lastly, if your a social media junkie like I am, keep an eye on the Official DCU Online Facebook page.

Well you should be up to date on one of the most ambitious MMO’s to be released in quite sometime. I was going to bed, but I think I am going to re-read Hush again 🙂
