VGchartz reports that in the days following the price drop, PS3 sales have increased 30%. They go on to report that overall, sales are up 12%. What’s significant is that this is occuring all before the official availability date of the PS3 Slim on September 1st.
It will be interesting to see how the numbers game plays out after the PS3 Slim hits in a few weeks. Sony has positioned themselves quite well at this point to continue the momentum generated through the holidays. The only negative comments thus far are on the console design itself. Given the design of the competing consoles this generation, I would submit that the PS3 is still by far the most aesthetically pleasing.
What remains to be seen is how the impending XBOX360 Elite price drop will affect sales.
