At IFA 2009, Sony Europe announced its launch plan of BRAVIA Internet Video for new BRAVIA TVs, Blu-ray Disc players and Blu-ray home cinema systems. This new service will enable viewers to experience on-line TV programs available in early 2010, directly through the XMB. Sony is working with broadcast partners across Europe [ARD in Germany, M6 in France, Mediaset in Italy, RTVE, Antena3 and LaSexta in Spain and Five in UK] to build an advanced TV viewing experiences on a trial basis. BRAVIA Internet Video will also offer a wide variety of free on-demand video content from internet sites such as YouTube and Dailymotion. Some of these features are already available on higher-end BRAVIA televisions, such as the XBR9.
“This trend continues to grow, fuelled by broadcasters’ TV programming available on-line”, said Fujio Nishida, President of Sony Europe. “However, Sony will enhance the experience of watching full length TV programmes on a PC, by bringing that content to the TV in the Living Room.”
