Previously Will Smith told JoBlo that a sequel was “definitely” happening. A few month’s later, Peter Berg spoke with Sci Fi wire and shared his thoughts on a potential sequel stating “There might be another god out there”.
Now things appear to be getting fleshed out. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sony/Columbia has hired Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to write the sequel. Fierro wrote for Showtime’s “Dexter” and served as Consulting Producer on several episodes. Mazzara wrote for NBC’s “Life” and worked with Fierro on “Shield.”
Hancock did extremely well at the box office for Sony/Columbia with a worldwide gross of over $600 Million and a production budget of roughly $150 Million.
Combining two writers both familiar with working on character driven shows, and one particularly that exists in a very dark atmosphere opens the door of possibilities on what should be another successful sequel.
Fierro wrote one of my favorite episodes of Dexter Season 3: “All in the Family”. I am looking forward to how he works with Mazzara in evolving the Hancock Universe.
