Sony Pictures Television Intl.’s networks group Tuesday announced that it has acquired Mystery Channel in Japan from former owners Marubeni, Media Intl. and Broadmedia Studios. According to the terms of the deal, Mystery Channel, which supplies an eponymous cable and satellite channel to 4 million subscribers, will become a subsid of Sony Pictures Entertainment (Japan), the Tokyo-based subsidary of Sony Pictures Entertainment. Its name will remain the same.
SPEJ oversees SPTI’s cable and satellite biz in Japan, including channel operators Animax Broadcast Japan (toons) and AXN Japan (foreign TV series and pics).
