Moneyball is a movie that was set to release in 2011 based on the book Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game, a book by Michael M. Lewis, published in 2003, about the Oakland Athletics baseball team and its general manager, Billy Beane. Its focus is the team’s modernized, analytical, sabermetric approach to assembling a competitive baseball team, despite Oakland’s disadvantaged revenue situation. Actor Brad Pitt is attached to play Billy Beane, while comedian Demetri Martin is attached to play Paul DePodesta. However, Amy Pascal (Co-Chairman, Sony Pictures Entertainment) at Columbia has put the upcoming movie on “limited turnaround status,” which in fancy terms basically means that Amy and others weren’t happy with the latest script rewrite by Soderbergh. Limited turnaround means the film may still wind up with a different studio, as well, with Warner Bros. and Paramount considered top prospects.
If a new financier doesn’t emerge by the end of Monday, Variety reported, Columbia will consider options that include replacing Soderbergh, delaying the film until Pascal and the filmmaker find themselves in synch on the script or pulling the plug altogether.
